Sherill Tippins est l'auteure de February House: The Story of W. H. Auden, Benjamin Britten, Paul and Jane Bowles, Carson McCullers, and Gypsy Rose Lee Under One Roof in Wartime America (2005), qui a reçu le prix littéraire LAMBDA de la biographie en 2006 et a été adapté en comédie musicale par Gabriel Kahane et Seth Bockley. Dream Palace: The Life and Times of New York's Legendary Chelsea Hotel (2013) a reçu le Marfield Prize, National Prize for Arts Writing.
